Why it matters
This is a good price, not a record. The summer Prime Day low was $399, which 9to5Toys describes as a limited-time offer. 9to5Toys calls $429 one of the lowest prices it has tracked, and MacRumors calls it a second-best price. If you can wait, $399 is the figure to compare against.
The saving is measured against the $549.00 List Price, so it only matters if you would otherwise pay list.

What the headphones are
The Verge says the AirPods Max 2 looks the same as the original, with upgraded internals. We did not compare the two models ourselves.
AirPods Max 2 carry an H2 chip, which Apple says brings up to 1.5x more Active Noise Cancellation than the previous generation. MacRumors says Apple refreshed the AirPods Max in March 2026 with the H2 chip and a USB-C port.
