CMF announced two portable Bluetooth speakers on October 12: the Speaker S at $59 and the Speaker M at $109. Both are rated IP68 for dust and water and list a battery life of up to 18 hours. All performance numbers below come from CMF's product pages; we have not tested either speaker.

For the extra $50, the M gives you more than three times the rated power and a second driver. It is also nearly twice as heavy.

What they share

Both speakers list Bluetooth 6, dual connection to two devices, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair, NFC, and USB-C audio input. They support Auracast broadcast, and two speakers can be paired in stereo mode. Both have a physical knob, and the codecs listed are AAC and SBC, with LC3 for Auracast only.

Both are listed at up to 18 hours with Ultra Bass on, at 50% volume, over AAC. CMF says a 10-minute charge on the S gives about an hour of playback. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours on the S and 3 hours on the M.

The speakers come in turquoise, dark grey, white and orange, on CMF's store pages.

How the S compares at $59

Ultimate Ears sells the Miniroll at $59.99 on its US site. It lists IP67, up to 12 hours of playtime, and a strap for carrying. On paper, the CMF Speaker S costs 99 cents less, has a higher water-resistance rating (IP68 against IP67) and a longer battery claim. CMF's figure assumes Ultra Bass on, 50% volume and AAC; we did not check how Ultimate Ears measures its 12 hours, so read reviews before treating the gap as a verdict.

We did not find a like-for-like rival for the M. Ultimate Ears' Wonderboom 4 costs less, at $79.99, and lists IP67 and 14 hours, but it is not a direct match for the M's 35 W rating.

Availability

We could not confirm stock. GSMArena reports sales open October 12 at Nothing's online store and select partners. Nothing's US pages show an add-to-bag button for both speakers, but we are not claiming stock. We could not check Amazon, so we are not linking a listing.

What we could not confirm

We have no sound-quality results, and no independent battery tests. Ratings, wattage and battery life are CMF's claims.
