ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have ordered more than 3 million of Nvidia's new RTX PRO 5500 cards, according to Reuters, citing sources. Nvidia has not confirmed the figures.

What the report says

  • Size: the three orders are said to be worth more than $35 billion. The report's approximate per-card figure is $11,400, which is not an Nvidia price. Total orders from China reportedly exceed 6 million.
  • Supply: Nvidia reportedly told partners it cannot guarantee supply. One source said partners may get only 5 to 10 percent of what they asked for.
  • Cap: another source said output is limited to about 3 million cards worldwide in 2027.
  • Timing: early samples are due in December, with commercial deliveries in the first quarter of 2027.
  • Use: the companies reportedly plan to run the cards mainly for AI inference (running trained AI models, rather than training them).

The report describes the card as an export-compliant option for China. It says Nvidia's B300 is barred there, and the RTX PRO 5500 is less powerful than the H200 and the B300.

What Nvidia lists for the card

Nvidia's product page says "Coming Soon" and shows preliminary specifications:

  • 84 GB of GDDR7 memory with ECC (error-correcting memory), at 1,398 GB/s
  • Blackwell architecture, fifth-generation Tensor Cores
  • PCIe Gen 5 x16, up to 600 W, air-cooled
  • A liquid-cooled version in the RXM form factor (a different card format)

The page shows no list price. A spokesperson said Chinese makers of workstation chips and cards have seen "unprecedented" growth. ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent did not respond to requests for comment.

Why it matters

The supply-cap claim rests on one anonymous source. If it is right and most of 2027's output goes to three buyers, fewer cards would be left for everyone else, and waits on RTX PRO and other workstation cards could grow. Whether it touches consumer GPU prices is not shown by this report.

The same pressure was reported earlier. Chinese firms were said to have bought over 1 million Nvidia GPUs in a year, and Nvidia may be moving chips toward RTX Pro cards, away from the GeForce RTX 5090. Both are unconfirmed.

What to watch

  • Whether Nvidia confirms the orders or its supply limits.
  • Whether RTX PRO 5500 pricing and availability appear for US customers.
  • Whether the December samples and Q1 2027 deliveries hold to schedule.
  • Whether workstation and high-end GPU stock or prices move in the US. No source here says they will.

If you are planning a purchase, buy what is in stock at a price you can verify. This report gives no date for any change.
