Google's Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7, released October 9, 2026 for Pixel phones, fixes a bug where Flip to Shh kept the phone from entering deep sleep and drained the battery while idle. This is a beta build for testers, and we found no announcement of when the fix reaches the regular Pixel update.
What was fixed
According to 9to5Google, Beta 7 addresses "excessive battery drain during idle states when Flip to Shh prevents the device from entering deep sleep." It lists two Google Issue Tracker entries, #560036427 and #569079944. Beta 7 also fixes HTTPS downloads that failed immediately when started through the system DownloadManager (issue #562833711).
Flip to Shh is the Pixel feature that silences the phone when you place it face down. Android Headlines describes the bug as the processor failing to reach deep sleep while the feature was on, so background hardware stayed active on a phone sitting idle.
How bad was it
Issue #560036427 is marked "Fixed" on Google's tracker. The tester who filed it reported on Sep 11 that turning the feature on cost an additional 8 to 10 mAh per hour, which they described as about 33 percent more drain in doze, on beta build CP41.260814.003.C2.
They said the feature checked its sensor 10 times a second with no batching. That is the reporter's own reading of their logs. Google's release notes give no quantified drain figures or detailed explanation of the sensor polling.
Who gets it
Beta 7 is build CP41.260831.016, with a 2026-10-05 security patch level.
9to5Google lists these devices for the system images: Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold.
Google's release notes list one known issue in Beta 7: Pixel 11 Pro Fold users may have to re-enroll Face Unlock for it to work properly.
9to5Google says sideloading is the quickest way to get Beta 7 on a Beta 6.1 device, and that at launch the phone still offered QPR3 Beta 1. Google asks testers to report issues through the Android Beta Feedback app.
What to do if your Pixel drains overnight
- If you are on Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1, install Beta 7. QPR3 Beta 1 testers should check which build they are offered.
- If you are on a regular release, the reports we found describe beta builds, and we found no confirmation that the stable release is affected.
- Until a fix reaches you, turning Flip to Shh off in Settings is the step the tester's report points to. We did not test it ourselves.
What we could not confirm
- A stable release date or carrier rollout timing for the fix
- Whether any stable Pixel build has this bug
- Google's own detailed explanation of the cause
PhoneArena also covered the fix, but its article would not load for us, so nothing here relies on it.
