xAI, now branded SpaceXSI, launched The X Subscription plans on October 12, putting Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium on one plan. US monthly prices are Free $0, Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200, before taxes.

New customers can buy now, and xAI says the rollout reaches everyone globally over the next few days. Grok and Cursor draw on one shared usage pool.

Why it matters

The saving depends on which plans you pay for today. Some combinations of old plans get cheaper. A single plan mostly gets more for the same price. A few cases get worse.

  • Costs more: Cursor Pro alone ($20) becomes Premium ($30), or Plus ($8) with Grok models only in Cursor.
  • Extra bills remain: third-party models in Cursor need Premium or above and are billed at API list price on top of the tier.
  • Hard to undo: Storyboard18, citing xAI's documentation, reports that switching is permanent. We could not read that page.

The X Subscription tiers

xAI says each comparable new tier gives more usage per dollar than the plan it replaces. It publishes usage only as multiples of Plus, not as absolute limits. Prices are US monthly prices and exclude taxes.

TierPriceWhat xAI listsIncluded usage
Free$0Daily access to Grok, a starter allowance for Cursor's coding agents, standard XLimited
Plus$8/monthMore AI usage in Grok and Cursor, plus a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads on XBase
Premium$30/monthThe benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined4x Plus
Super$100/monthAll Premium features15x Plus
Ultra$200/monthAll Super features50x Plus

Per the plan comparison on Cursor's site, Premium is where these start:

  • Cloud agents and automations, code hosting and AI code reviews in Cursor.
  • Grok Bot, video generation and faster chat responses.
  • Third-party models in Cursor, billed at API list price.
  • Ad-free scrolling on most X surfaces and a preferred handle.

Super adds priority model access at peak times. Ultra adds the earliest access to new products and models.

How the usage pool works

  • One pool covers Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice and Grok Bot, and Cursor. Spend it on one product or split it.
  • xAI says each plan has at least twice the coding usage with Grok models as the comparable Cursor plan. That excludes third-party models.
  • The allowance refreshes weekly. After that you can wait or buy top-ups.
  • Third-party models in Cursor are not in the pool. They are billed separately at API list prices through top-ups, and you can set spending caps.

What the old plans cost

These are US web prices from each company's own pages just before the change.

  • SuperGrok: $30/month. SuperGrok Plus: $100/month. SuperGrok Heavy is listed with no price in the snapshot we could read.
  • Cursor: Pro $20/month, Pro+ $60/month, Ultra $200/month. Teams: $40 per user per month.
  • X Premium: Basic $3/month, Premium $8/month, Premium+ $40/month.
  • SuperGrok $30 plus Cursor Pro $20 plus X Premium+ $40 is $90, matching xAI's figure.

What changes if you switch

xAI's switch flow links your X, Grok and Cursor accounts and recommends a plan. It publishes no absolute allowance for any tier, so compare your own usage first.

The "closest tier" is our pairing by price and features, not xAI's. Plus runs only Grok models inside Cursor. Your current Cursor plan's included third-party usage continues until you switch.

Switching and rollout

  • Existing subscribers see a switch option in account billing settings when it reaches their account.
  • Switching ends your old plans with a prorated refund and starts the new one at once. You can also keep your current plan, price and features.
  • Old plans are closed to new sign-ups. xAI will eventually move remaining customers, with no timeline and advance notice.
  • Annual plans run to the end of the term unless you choose to upgrade. A change xAI makes takes effect only at renewal, with advance notice.
  • xAI says switching comes with limited-time offers, visible in billing settings. It does not publish them.

Teams and enterprise

  • Team seats cost $30, $100 or $200 per seat, the same as individual tiers.
  • Against the old Cursor Teams price of $40 per user, $30 is $10 less per seat.
  • xAI says that tier also has 3x the coding usage of older Cursor Teams. We could not verify that.
  • Included: SSO, admin controls, consolidated billing, usage analytics and SOC 2 compliance.
  • Enterprise customers get one dashboard and a single pool across Grok and Cursor.
  • Storyboard18 reports that enterprise switching has separate eligibility conditions, with only certain accounts able to switch for now. We could not check this on xAI's own pages.

What we don't know

  • Absolute usage limits for any tier. xAI publishes only multiples of Plus.
  • What the limited-time switching offers are.
  • Whether you can return to an old plan after switching. Storyboard18 reports that you cannot, citing xAI's documentation.
  • Prices outside the US, and app-store prices.
  • How the usage claims hold up in practice. RR Tech Pulse has not tested the plans.

Engadget reports Ultra as 20 times Plus usage. xAI's page and Cursor's pricing page both say 50x, which is what we use.
