ASUS announced an AMD version of its 14-inch ExpertBook A7 business laptop on October 14. It keeps the OLED screen and aluminium body of the Intel model. The announcement gives no US price or release date, so the question for buyers is whether to buy the Intel A7 now.
What ASUS says is in the AMD model
ASUS's press release lists:
- Chips: AMD Ryzen AI 5 330 or Ryzen AI 7 345, described by ASUS as a Copilot+ PC with up to 50 NPU TOPS
- Memory and storage: up to 16GB of LPDDR5X, on board, and up to a 512GB SSD, per ASUS
- Screen: 14-inch 2880x1800 OLED, 120Hz, 600 nits with HDR, in glossy and anti-glare options, per ASUS
- Body: aluminium unibody, 10 to 11.85mm thick, from 1.2kg, in Eclipse Black or Lunar Silver, per ASUS
- Ports: two USB 4.0 Gen 3 Type-C, one USB-A, one HDMI 2.1b, per ASUS
ASUS says the laptop gets up to 21 hours of battery life. That comes from ASUS's own August 2026 test on a Ryzen AI 5 model with 16GB and 512GB, playing local video at 50% brightness.
The five-year update promise
ASUS writes that it "also provides five years of BIOS and driver security updates, supporting dependable protection throughout the device lifecycle." That is a firmware and driver promise from ASUS. It does not say whether Windows or app updates are covered, and the release does not describe how the updates are delivered.
The Intel A7 on ASUS's US store
ASUS's US store lists the Intel ExpertBook A7 from $1,299.99. The listing shows a Core 5 320, 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD and a 2880x1800 OLED at 500 nits, with an Add to Cart button as of October 14. Other US sellers are not confirmed.
ASUS's tech specs list an Intel Core 7 350 or Core 5 320, 8GB, 12GB or 16GB of memory, and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The screen is the same 2880x1800 OLED.
Intel against AMD
The memory ceiling does not separate them. ASUS's Intel page says "up to 16 GB LPDDR5X", the same as the AMD release, and both stop at 512GB of storage.
What differs, according to ASUS's pages:
- AI hardware: ASUS's Intel page lists up to 17 NPU TOPS and does not call it a Copilot+ PC. The AMD release does, with up to 50.
- Screen brightness: the AMD release says 600 nits with HDR. ASUS's Intel page says 600 nits HDR in its overview, but its tech specs say 500 nits.
- Battery: ASUS's Intel page claims up to 26 hours, from a test on a Core 7 350. The AMD release claims 21 hours. The two tests used different chips, so they are not a like-for-like comparison.
Why it matters
Our read: waiting gains you a Copilot+ chip with more AI horsepower. It costs you an unknown price and date. ASUS's release does not say the AMD model raises the 16GB memory limit, so anyone who needs more memory for heavy multitasking should look at other laptops rather than wait for this one.
If you want 32GB now, our T14s story found Lenovo's US store listing the 32GB/1TB Snapdragon ThinkPad T14s Gen 7 at $2,169 on Oct 14, with a 1200p 60Hz screen rather than OLED.
What is not confirmed
ASUS's release gives no AMD price, no date, and no country or market where the AMD model will go on sale. Whether any US seller besides ASUS's own store carries the Intel model is also not confirmed.
