Apple released iOS 27.2 beta 4 (build 24B5110a) to developers on Oct. 13, and Apple's release notes list only developer-facing changes. Three user-visible changes in Messages, Home and Apple Music are reported but not confirmed by Apple. This is a beta, so any of it could change before release.

What we know

  • Apple's notes: sections for App Tracking Transparency, Health, Nearby Interaction, Shortcuts, StoreKit Testing and UIKit, among others. They do not mention Messages, Home or Apple Music changes.
  • Health: Apple's notes say the Health redesign is absent from this beta.
  • Release date: none. Apple's developer releases page lists the beta and gives no public date, and we will not guess one.

Reported, not confirmed by Apple

  • Messages Suggested Actions. 9to5Mac reports a new Settings > Apps > Messages > Suggested Actions page with five toggles: Add to Calendar, Add to Reminders, Add to Notes, Show in Maps, and Flights and Packages. It adds that Apple first built this for iOS 27.0 and pulled it from a summer beta.
  • Home smart-lock timers. Leaker pdfu says Lock After Closing starts its timer when the door closes, not when it unlocks, and needs a lock with a compatible door-position sensor. pdfu named the new LG Smart Deadbolt Lock as one that supports it.
  • Door Left Open alerts. pdfu also says a Door Left Open setting offers Off, 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes, needs a Matter door position sensor, and sits behind a flag in the Home app code, so it may not appear for everyone.
  • Apple Music redesign. The Oct. 16 report also describes a black-and-white app icon, black widget backgrounds instead of red, no red accent and a blue active tab. It says reception has been negative.

Why it matters

Our reading: both lock features are reported to need a compatible door position sensor, so check your hardware before counting on them. The Apple Music change is cosmetic, and a flag-gated feature can vanish before release.

Where this meets Apple's new Home gear

Apple's HomeView page and Apple TV 4K page list availability starting Nov. 13. HomeView's specs page says it needs an iPhone with iOS 27.2 or later or an iPad with iPadOS 27.2 or later, and notes Siri AI is in beta in HomeView software 27.2. See what Apple announced, which Siri AI features need an Apple Intelligence iPhone and whether to upgrade your Apple TV. Apple has not tied the Home lock features above to that hardware.

We will update this page as later betas land.
