Nothing has started rolling out stable Android 17, as Nothing OS 5.0, to the Phone (3). Nothing says the rollout is staggered, so availability varies by region and device. It does not name the US or any carrier, and 9to5Google lists the next phones for early November.

What Nothing says

  • Update: Nothing OS 5.0 general release is rolling out to the Phone (3), Nothing says in a post on its community forum.
  • Includes: a redesigned Launcher, Micrographics clock face, refreshed design system, deeper personalisation, smoother performance, improved Essential AI tools and "the best of Android 17," in Nothing's words.
  • How to get it: Settings > System > System update.
  • Beta: Nothing thanks Open Beta testers. 9to5Google says the beta began a couple of months ago. Nothing's roadmap post puts the Phone (3) beta start at August 26.

Rollout schedule

9to5Google says Nothing is still on track for its original schedule, with stable rollouts through mid-January 2027. Gizmochina listed the same general-release windows from Nothing's August plan. Nothing's current roadmap graphic shows only the Phone (3) under general release so far, so treat later dates as Nothing's plan, not a promise.

  • Phone (3): October 12.
  • Phone (4a) Pro, (4a), (3a) Pro, (3a): early November.
  • Phone (2a), (2a) Plus: mid November.
  • Phone (3a) Lite: late December.
  • Phone (4b), CMF Phone 2 Pro: mid January.

Launcher and lock screen

Nothing's feature post says the redesigned home screen arrives with the general release, as an extra theme. It adds transparent details across widgets and Search, and wallpaper-tinted app icons. Micrographics shows date, time, weather and upcoming meetings in one lock-screen clock face. Nothing's roadmap post says both come with the general release, starting in October.

What is not confirmed

  • US availability: Nothing says the rollout is staggered and varies by region and device. It names no countries and no carriers.
  • Your date: the month windows come from 9to5Google and Gizmochina, not a dated Nothing page we could read, and none gives exact days.
  • Older phones: Gizmochina's August report says Nothing confirmed the Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 are not eligible for Nothing OS 5.0.
  • Update size: Android Authority gives 2.84GB for non-beta users and about 1.68GB for beta users, from rollout screenshots circulating on social media. Nothing does not say.

Why it matters

Android Authority calls the Phone (3) Nothing's first phone on Android 17, but the schedule is a long tail. If the plan holds, a Phone (3a) owner waits about three weeks and a Phone (3a) Lite owner about ten.

Nothing has also split the release: its roadmap post says some Essential Space updates arrive through Google Play, not the OS update.

If you want to know what Android 17 itself adds, see our guide to Android 17 features worth turning on. Nothing's own additions, such as the Launcher and Micrographics, are separate from Google's.

Our take (not from the sources)

  • If you own a Phone (3), check System update now, but expect a wait if your region is late in the staggered wave.
  • If you own a listed model, read your month window as an estimate. Owners of the ineligible phones above get no Android 17 update from this plan.
  • We have not tested the update.
