The step-down
Each generation costs more than the last at the same storage. The S25 Ultra 256GB is $979, while the S24 Ultra 256GB is $849, a $130 gap. At the S25 and S24 tier the 256GB models are $629 and $549, an $80 gap.
Our call
The Ultra tier is where stepping down pays most: $130 is a bigger saving than the $80 on the standard S25. The cheapest way in is the S24 FE 128GB, and the S24 128GB is only $30 more if you want the standard S24.
Every unit has the same one-year warranty, so Care+ is the optional extra. Samsung's plan footnote puts a cracked screen or back glass repair at $29 per claim, which is worth weighing on a phone you will carry daily.
Compare the same storage across generations before you buy. Our earlier stories cover Refurbished Pixel 9 from $499 vs a new Pixel 9a and Galaxy S26 Ultra 256GB is $949.99 at Amazon.
Samsung's newsroom also lists a separate item adding the Galaxy S26 series to the Certified Re-Newed lineup.
