Samsung's first smart glasses weigh 41 grams and go on sale in the US in November, per SammyGuru's leak, which CNET picked up on Oct. 13. Samsung has not confirmed the weight, a price or a date. Every figure below is the leak's, not Samsung's, unless we say otherwise.

What the leak lists

Per SammyGuru's leak:

  • Weight: about 41 g with standard lenses; prescription lenses add a little, and the exact figure varies by model
  • Camera: 12 MP, with 3K video at 30 fps, stored on 64 GB until you move clips to your phone
  • Audio: two open-ear speakers and four microphones for calls and Gemini
  • Battery: up to 9 hours, up to 72 hours with the charging case
  • Water resistance: IPX4, so sweat and light rain are fine; the case is not rated
  • No display; answers come as speech
  • Chip and memory: Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 with 2 GB of RAM. The leak does not say what these mean in daily use, so we do not rate them

Samsung's own release from Unpacked on July 22 already gave:

  • Chip: Snapdragon AR1
  • Camera: built in
  • Assistant: Gemini on Android XR
  • Battery: up to nine hours, plus up to seven more charges from the case

Samsung's July 31 interview added a recording light: "A bystander-facing LED indicator and an inner LED clearly show when recording is active." That is announced; the final product is unconfirmed. The weight is the new number.

Frames, sale and phones

Per the leak, there are 26 versions across nine styles:

  • Gentle Monster: six frame shapes in 16 versions, including the first non-black frame colours (light gray, pale lilac, burgundy, cream)

  • Warby Parker, Alden: Pine (dark green) or Saddle (reddish brown)

  • Warby Parker, Wren: Pine or Saddle

  • Warby Parker, Reid: Jet Black

  • Warby Parker lenses: clear or sunglass; it also gets a navy charging case

  • Sale: November. Gentle Monster's glasses in South Korea and the US; Warby Parker's in the US only

  • Where: each brand's website and stores, and Samsung Experience Stores in the US

  • Price: none reported

  • Galaxy features: a recent Galaxy S, Z Fold or Z Flip on One UI 9 or later; watch features need a Galaxy Watch on Wear OS 7 or later

  • Gestures: Samsung's release says "Gesture interactions are only provided through Watch9"

  • Age: Samsung says the glasses' services and features are meant for people 18 and older, per SammyGuru's leak

  • Other phones: SammyGuru says Google and Gentle Monster have said the glasses also work with other Android phones and iPhones, and that the requirements above are for the extra Galaxy features

Against Ray-Ban Meta

CNET reports the leak puts Samsung's glasses against "the lightest Meta Ray-Ban model." The weights:

  • Samsung, per the leak: about 41 g with standard lenses, with a camera; the exact figure varies by model
  • Ray-Ban Meta Audio: 43 g, per Meta's announcement; it has no camera (our story)
  • Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3), the camera model: no weight on the Meta pages we could read

So Samsung's camera glasses have not been shown to be lighter than Meta's camera glasses.

What Meta states for Gen 3, from its announcement and store page:

  • Price: from $449, per Meta's store page, read Oct. 13 about 10:25 pm ET (launch price; Meta's announcement is dated Sept. 23)
  • Camera: 12 MP, 3K Ultra HD video
  • Battery: up to nine hours
  • Assistant: Meta AI, with a customisable action button
  • Privacy: an LED that shows when it is taking photos or video
  • Phone: per Meta's store page, read 10:56 pm ET Oct. 13, "The Meta AI app is required to support your glasses experience"; calls work "via Bluetooth connection to your smartphone." The page names no minimum iOS or Android version

Per the leak, Samsung matches the camera and battery on paper, uses Gemini instead of Meta AI, and adds the Galaxy phone and watch features.

What is still unknown

  • Price and exact release date
  • Whether prescription lenses cost extra; the leak says Gentle Monster sells them through its US website
  • Whether the glasses are fully usable on non-Galaxy phones
  • Whether the leak's weight holds in the final product
  • Whether the final product keeps the recording LED Samsung announced; the leak does not mention it

For a different kind of Android XR glasses, see our XREAL Aura story:

  • Price: from $1,279 for the 12GB/256GB model, per XREAL's US shop as of Oct. 13, about 10:31 pm ET

Why it matters

A leaked weight with no price is not yet a buying decision. Buying Ray-Ban Meta now means Meta AI, not Gemini, and the Meta AI app, which Meta says is required. Per Samsung, its gesture controls work only with Watch9. Someone who wants either gives that up by buying first. Samsung's glasses have no price and, per the leak, arrive in November only in the US and Korea. Galaxy owners gain most; others rely on Google's and Gentle Monster's word.

Wait or buy

Our read, untested: we have not worn either pair. If you want a camera pair now, Ray-Ban Meta is a known product with a listed price. If you carry a Galaxy phone and can wait a few weeks, wait for Samsung's price and a real review before spending. The weight is the number to confirm first.
