Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7.1, released October 16, 2026, fixes "severe UI stuttering and multi-second freezes" on Pixel phones, according to the Android Developers release notes (issue #571186734). The fix is listed for this beta build only.

What the release notes say

Per the release notes, Beta 7.1 is build CP41.260831.019, with a 2026-10-05 security patch and Google Play services 26.28.33. The notes list one known issue: Pixel 11 Pro Fold users may have to re-enroll Face Unlock for it to work properly.

The fix follows Beta 7, which addressed idle battery drain tied to Flip to Shh.

What the bug report says

Issue #571186734 on Google's tracker was filed October 8 by a user. The report says a Pixel kernel regression causes severe stuttering and freezes under memory pressure, that it started with Android 17 QPR1 in September 2026, and that stock Pixels are affected.

The issue has more than 1,800 plus-ones. Its status line still reads "No update yet". Google has not announced a stable date for the fix.

How to get the fix now

The Android Beta page says enrolled devices automatically receive updates for the latest beta. Sign in to your Google Account on the page to see your eligible devices, opt a device in, and accept the program terms.

  • The page lists Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro, 9 Pro Fold, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold. Your own list appears after sign-in.
  • Devices must be on a non-Developer Preview public stable build to enroll.
  • Updates may take up to 24 hours to arrive after opting in. Check Settings > System > System update if nothing shows.
  • The page says beta updates can contain errors and defects that affect normal use of the phone.

Why it matters

The beta page says you cannot unenroll and return to a stable public version without first wiping all locally saved data, and that restoring a backup may cause issues.

One exception: after you apply the stable update for the version you are testing, you can opt out without a wipe for a limited time, until you apply the next beta update.
