Ask Play, the AI helper in the Play Store, can now put apps side by side and show how each makes money and whether it works offline, before you install, Google says, "starting today" (Oct. 13). Play in Gemini, which brings Play apps into Gemini chats, reaches all Gemini users "soon," with no date.

In May, Google's I/O 2026 post introduced Ask Play as an AI overlay for conversational app search. Comparison is what this adds.

What you can use today

Google's post says an Ask Play comparison highlights "key differences and user sentiment." Its developer post adds that it shows side-by-side results in search and compares details like "subscription models or offline capabilities," drawing on the store listing and user reviews.

The sample screens in Google's post show how to reach it. You search Play, open the Ask Play answer, and tap "Compare these apps" under "Dive deeper with Ask Play."

Android Authority describes it as a compare option in Ask Play results.

What a comparison card shows

In Google's simulated example, each app gets a card with "Best for," "Monetization Mode," "App Impact" and "Connectivity." The sample apps are labelled ad-supported with in-app purchases, and "online required" or "limited offline support."

Game Finder and sports

Google says Game Finder builds a "Gamer DNA" from how you play and what you tell Play you like, and it rolls out in English to US users today, with other markets "coming soon."

Sports Topic Pages "now cover" Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, Liga MX and Major League Soccer, Google's post says. Android Authority says the soccer content starts showing on Oct. 14.

Play in Gemini, with no date

Play in Gemini brings Play's apps, games and developer content into Gemini conversations and "will start rolling out to all Gemini users soon," Google says. Its developer post adds that it now works with Gemini Live voice.

The posts leave a gap. In May, Google said app discovery in the Gemini app on Android and Web would come "in the coming weeks." The developer post says Gemini conversations have driven over 6 million app installs "in just two months since launch."

Yet Google's post says the wider rollout is still "soon." None says who has had it since launch or who gets it next, and none gives a date or country list.

Android Authority reports install links and deep links; Google's posts we read do not use those words for this feature.

Countries, languages and plans

For Ask Play comparisons, Google's post gives no countries, languages or Gemini plan requirement. Only Game Finder is stated as English, US. Whether Play in Gemini depends on your plan is not addressed; our report on the free Gemini plan covers what free users get.

What else Google changed

Google says the Play Store adapts to a car's screen, becomes a 3D space on XR, and puts large-screen apps front and center on Googlebook. We cover the car part in our report. The personal-apps feature from the same post is in our earlier story.

Why it matters

Our judgment: a card that states how an app makes money could help you spot an ad-heavy or in-app-purchase app before installing. It is only as good as what Google says it draws on, the store listing and reviews, so check the price and renewal terms on the app page.

Google's example does not show a data-collection field. For that, open the app's Data safety section on its Play page, which Google says developers use to describe how the app handles your data.
