Bose has bought Skullcandy. In its announcement, dated October 21, Bose says the deal has closed. Skullcandy, an audio brand, was sold by a fund managed by Mill Road Capital Management.
What was announced
- Price and terms: confidential. Neither company gave a figure.
- Brand: Skullcandy stays a separate brand inside Bose's Premium Consumer Audio business.
- Location: Skullcandy stays based in Park City, Utah.
- Portfolio: Bose now owns Bose, McIntosh, Sonus faber and Skullcandy.
- Legal: Jones Day advised Bose.
What Bose says it will do
Bose says it will invest in Skullcandy's growth, offering technology, resources, global distribution and commercial relationships. Bose CEO Lila Snyder said, "As a privately held company, we have the freedom to make bold, long-term investments".
Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow said, "Joining Bose gives us the opportunity to make those experiences even better".
What it means for Skullcandy buyers
Bose announced no products.
The two companies already worked together. The deal follows a multi-year partnership that brought "Sound by Bose" technology to Skullcandy products.
Why it matters
Skullcandy is staying a separate brand. The benefits Bose describes, such as technology and distribution, come with no products announced yet, so there is nothing to plan a purchase around.
