Google's Home release notes for Oct. 14 list fixes for how Gemini for Home handles "stop" commands, smoother drag-and-drop in the Favorites view and redesigned third-party controls. 9to5Google covered the update as a mix of Gemini fixes and app changes.
What Google says is fixed
Google's release notes say it fixed an issue where saying "stop" "could be misinterpreted as ending a conversation rather than stopping your active media playback, timers, or alarms." Google also says it raised the on-screen text scrolling speed on smart displays "so visual answers stay in sync with Gemini's spoken response."
Google says a polite ending such as "Thank you" now gets "a brief, warm goodbye," while a direct command to stop talking leaves Gemini silent and closes the microphone immediately. It also lists "consistent temperature units" for weather answers, following the home-wide setting.
Google's notes say it resolved "drag-and-drop instability in the Favorites view," and rebuilt "the core controls for third-party lights, plugs, and switches" with a refreshed look. 9to5Google's Will Sattelberg writes that Gemini "really needs some attention within Home."
What the sources leave open
Google's Oct. 14 entry does not list any remaining Gemini or Favorites problems, and does not specify an app version. 9to5Google's report names no remaining problems either.
Who gets it
Google's page files the Gemini voice items under "Gemini for Home (early access)." The Oct. 14 entry does not specify who is eligible for these fixes. It does say new features come "every couple weeks" and that some "may take time to roll out to everyone," even on the latest app version.
Local Matter control for Hue
Google says existing Philips Hue bridges now upgrade in the background to local Matter control through Google Home hubs, with faster response times, greater reliability and no re-pairing. 9to5Google's reporter expects outage control on the same network. Google's Oct. 14 entry does not say that.
Older speaker firmware
9to5Google reports Google is testing firmware 3.79.550760 in its Preview Program for the Google Home, Home Mini, Nest Mini and Nest Audio. It expects a production release in a few weeks.
Why it matters
Our read: the fixes target everyday friction, such as a "stop" that ends a chat instead of the timer. The trade-off is that Google's Oct. 14 entry lists the Gemini items under early access without specifying who is eligible, so owners cannot tell from that entry whether their home gets them now.
For comparison, our HomeView coverage covers Apple's rival home display, where, per that story, Apple prices HomeView at $299 and says its personal Siri AI features need a paired Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad.
