Amazon is taking pre-orders for Apple HomeView at $289.99 in Space Gray and Starlight, a small cut from Apple's $299. The other colors and the wall-mounted models are still $299.00. Every listing says HomeView will be released on Nov. 13, the same date Apple gives.
The price
Amazon's search results show the Space Gray and Starlight HomeView at $289.99 on Oct. 14, which is $9.01 under Apple's $299. Amazon shows no was-price.
MacRumors and 9to5Toys both reported the discount on Oct. 14. As of its Oct. 14 report, MacRumors says Amazon is the only retailer discounting it.
Other colors, wall-mounted models and bundles
Amazon's search results on Oct. 14 show no discount on these:
- HomeView in Silver and Rose Pink: $299.00
- Wall-mounted version, Space Gray or Silver: $299.00
- Wall-mounted bundle with the USB-C power mount: $358.99
- Wall-mounted bundle with the AC-wired mount: $378.99
- Schneider AC-wired mount alone: $79.99 (our power-adapter story lists Apple's price for it at $79.95)
Why it matters
The cut is $9.01, about 3 percent, and only on two of four colors. Amazon's price is a pre-order price: Apple's own page says HomeView is available from Nov. 13, and Amazon gives the same date.
For scale, Amazon lists the Echo Hub, an 8-inch smart-home control panel, at $179.99 as of Oct. 14. It costs less but is not a like-for-like match for HomeView.
Before you order, read the power requirements for the wall model and the repair and AppleCare costs. For the launch itself, see our event recap.
Should you pre-order?
If you were going to buy a standard HomeView anyway and are happy with Space Gray or Starlight, pre-ordering at Amazon saves a few dollars. Silver, Rose Pink and the wall-mounted models show no Amazon discount in that snapshot.
