Googlebook's main pitch is linking to your Android phone for instant hotspot, notification sync, file access and app streaming. Those features need Android 17 on the phone, so a Samsung owner gets none of them at launch, even on Android 17.

Availability

Googlebook reached US stores on October 4, and Tech Advisor's October 5 guide lists all five models as on sale. Google's shop page at googlebook.google/shop/ sells the same five.

Prices by maker

These are the "From" prices on Google's shop page as of Oct 9, 2026, which names each model. Other figures are attributed.

  • Acer Googlebook 14: From $899. Tbreak reports Acer calls $899 an initial launch price, available for a limited time.
  • Dell XPS Googlebook: From $999. Tbreak's September 21 pre-order table listed it at $1,199.
  • Lenovo Googlebook 15: From $1,099. Tbreak's September 21 pre-order table listed it at $1,299.
  • ASUS Googlebook 14: From $1,299. Tech Advisor's October 5 guide lists it at $1,199, so the two disagree.
  • HP Googlebook 14: From $1,299.

What the platform does

Google says Googlebook lets you open supported phone apps on the laptop, continue a phone task on the laptop, and view or insert phone files through Quick Access.

Samsung phones are not supported yet

The phone-linking features need Android 17 on the phone. Phones on Android 16 or earlier are not supported, according to 9to5Google, which quotes Google's support page.

Android Authority reports that Google's Mishaal Rahman said support is rolling out across all Android 17-supported Samsung devices "over the coming weeks." 9to5Google reports it is not stated whether Google or Samsung must push the update.

Other launch gaps

  • The Slack web app cannot be installed on Googlebook at launch, 9to5Google reports.

Why it matters

The reported range is $899 to $1,299, so a buyer should check which model a price belongs to before comparing it with a Chromebook. Samsung owners who want the phone link mainly should wait for confirmed support, because the only timing reported is "over the coming weeks."

What is not confirmed

  • Current retailer prices. The figures above are from Google's shop page; Best Buy and HP store pages were not readable, and the Tbreak and Tech Advisor prices are dated.
  • The ASUS price: Google's page says $1,299, Tech Advisor says $1,199.
  • Whether Acer's $899 price stays in place after the limited-time period.
  • When Samsung support arrives, and how it reaches phones.
