Apple is reportedly planning a wave of iPad updates in the first half of 2027, including a new model, an OLED iPad Air and a faster iPad Pro with a vapor chamber, according to Mark Gurman. Apple has not confirmed any of it.
Gurman posted on X on Nov. 1 at 11:09 a.m. ET: "Also in Power On: Apple is planning a wave of iPad updates in the first half of 2027, including a new model, OLED iPad Air and a faster iPad Pro with a vapor chamber. Don't expect new iPad launches in the second half of the year." The post is part of his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg.
What the report says
- A new model: the post says "a new model, OLED iPad Air", which could mean one product or two. It does not say which iPad the new model is.
- Faster iPad Pro: planned for the same window, faster than the current iPad Pro and with a vapor chamber. A vapor chamber spreads heat so a chip can stay fast longer; the post says nothing more about the Pro.
What is not known
"First half of 2027" is a plan, not a date, and plans can move. The post gives no prices, chips or sizes. Apple's current iPad Air is the M4 model from March 2026, the one in the photo above.
What this means for you
The report names no new iPad for the second half of 2027, and the earliest reported window is January to June 2027. Nothing is certain until Apple announces it. We would not wait for a rumor if your current iPad is failing.
Apple's OLED push is already under way. Apple announced an OLED iPad mini at $699 that ships Nov. 6, and announced touch-screen OLED MacBook Pro models on Oct. 28. A separate Gurman post says M7 versions of those laptops are planned for next year.
We will update this story if Apple says anything.
