Tom's Hardware reports that the GeForce RTX 5080 has disappeared from Nvidia's own online marketplace, the same way the RTX 5090 did. We could not check the marketplace ourselves. The article reports no Nvidia comment, and it notes the absence "does not necessarily mean Nvidia has discontinued" the card.
What the report says
In its Oct. 30 article, the outlet says RTX 5080 listings and filters are gone from Nvidia's marketplace. It says the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 are still listed, marked "Out of Stock."
The report puts the RTX 5080's January launch price at $999 and says the market price has "more than doubled" because of the memory shortage. At the time of writing, it says, the cheapest RTX 5080 it found in stock was a PNY RTX 5080 ARGB Epic-X RGB OC at $2,199.99, about 2.2 times the MSRP.
The outlet says it contacted Nvidia about the 5080's status. The article reports no response.
What is rumor
It also repeats rumors that Nvidia stopped RTX 5090 production to repurpose GB202 chips for RTX Pro Blackwell cards, and that a 24GB RTX 5080 will become the new flagship. These are the outlet's reporting of rumors. Nvidia, per the article, maintains that the RTX 5090 is still alive. We covered the original rumor in our RTX 5090 halt report, and the pricing side in our story on Chinese GPU purchases and the $7,199 RTX 5090, where that price was as of Oct. 13. Memory supply is also a stated pressure on PC prices; see our Altman DRAM story.
What we could check
- Nvidia's marketplace: we tried marketplace.nvidia.com and it returned "Access Denied" to our automated browser, so we could not confirm the listing state either way. Nvidia's RTX 5080 product page still showed "Starting at $999" and "See All Buying Options" on the evening of Oct. 31. That is a list price and says nothing about stock.
- Nvidia comment: we found no Nvidia statement on the 5080.
- Best Buy: a US search for "rtx 5080" on the evening of Oct. 31 (ET) showed:
| Card | Price shown | Status shown |
|---|---|---|
| PNY GeForce RTX 5080 Overclocked 16GB (triple fan) | $1,999.99 | Add to cart (one listing showed "Shipping unavailable") |
| Gigabyte RTX 5080 Gaming OC 16G | $2,499.99 | Unavailable |
| PNY RTX 5080 Epic-X RGB OC | $2,489.99 | Unavailable |
| ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 16GB | $2,500.00 | Unavailable |
| ASUS Prime RTX 5080 EVO OC | No price shown | Unavailable / Sold Out |
| MSI RTX 5080 16G Gaming Trio OC | No price shown | Sold Out |
Prebuilt desktops with an RTX 5080 were still listed, from $3,199.99 (Acer Predator Orion) to $3,799.99 (ASUS ROG G700).
This is one search at one point in time, not a price trend. Prices and stock change quickly.
What this means for you
- Whether Nvidia has stopped selling the RTX 5080 through its own store, or only paused it. We could not verify the listing and Nvidia has not said.
- Whether a 24GB RTX 5080 is coming. That is a rumor with no price or date.
- Whether retail stock recovers. Neither the report nor our Best Buy check shows a direction.
This story makes no buy-or-wait recommendation. If you want an RTX 5080, check its current price and stock at the retailer.
