Sonos 27voice is an optional AI voice assistant for music and system control, and Sonos is taking requests to join its US-only Early Access. The details below come from Sonos's own setup page, its control page and a Sonos Community post from Sonos staff dated Oct. 22.

What Sonos 27voice is

Sonos says 27voice pairs Sonos technology with select third-party AI models. Sonos says it was built to answer general knowledge questions, as well as play music and control your system.

It works on any Sonos product that has a microphone.

When does Sonos 27voice launch?

Sonos's own pages say only "Fall 2026" and "later this Fall". They give no Early Access date. Engadget reports that Early Access starts on Nov. 6, and that Sonos is testing with a smaller group before a fuller release in 2027. Those two points come from that report, not from Sonos.

What to do to join Early Access

Early Access is limited to US households and US English. Sonos says it is first come, first served, and enrollment is not guaranteed.

  1. Open the Sonos app on iOS or Android.
  2. Go to Settings and find the "Join Early Access for Sonos 27voice" tile.
  3. Tap Request Early Access. The tile then reads "You're on the list."
  4. If you are approved, the tile changes to "Set up Sonos 27voice."

Sonos says that if you are selected, there will be a delay between signing up and gaining access. Once the assistant is available, the community post places it under Settings > General Settings > Voice Assistants.

Switching from Classic Sonos Voice Control

Sonos's existing assistant, Sonos Voice Control, processes requests locally on the speaker. Sonos 27voice processes requests in the cloud, so it needs an internet connection.

Sonos says the existing assistant will be renamed Classic Sonos Voice Control. You can switch between the two, but you cannot install both on one system. Only one voice assistant can run on a Sonos system at a time.

What it cannot do yet

The community post lists these limits:

  • It is music-focused. It does not handle announcements, intercom, routines, calls or shopping. Timers work.
  • Queue actions are limited to add and play.
  • It cannot search your local music library by voice.
  • Alexa can share a speaker with it. Google Assistant cannot.
  • Sonos asks you not to share sensitive information such as account numbers, passwords or medical details.

What we do not know

  • Start date: Sonos has not given an Early Access date on its own pages.
  • Approval: Sonos has not said how it picks who gets in.
  • Global timing: no date for availability outside the US.

Sonos calls 27voice one of three ways to use AI with Sonos 27. It also says Sonos 27mcp is already in Early Access and Custom Agents are coming in 2027. We will update this page when Sonos confirms a date.
