Waymo riders in Las Vegas can now be picked up and dropped off at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), starting Oct. 21. Waymo says current Las Vegas riders have airport access now and more riders will be added gradually before it opens to everyone.

What Waymo announced

  • Where: dedicated autonomous vehicle zones on the Ground Zero Level at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
  • Who: current Waymo riders in Las Vegas now. More riders are added over time, then everyone.
  • Destinations: any address inside Waymo's current 24-square-mile Las Vegas service area.
  • Dropoffs: the same two zones handle pickups and dropoffs.

Waymo calls LAS one of the busiest airports in the United States and says it plans to serve more of the region over time.

Who else is involved

Clark County Director of Aviation James C. Chrisley said the airport is looking for "more choices in how they get to and from the airport" for passengers. Waymo says the airport link builds on its deals as official ride-hailing partner of the Las Vegas Raiders and Allegiant Stadium, and with The Venetian Resort.

TechCrunch adds that this is the sixth major airport Waymo serves, and that Amazon-owned Zoox already offers rides at the Las Vegas airport.

What is not announced

  • Waymo's post does not list airport fares or any airport fee.
  • It does not give a date for opening to all riders.
  • It does not describe how to request an airport ride in the app, or any hours.

Why it matters

Waymo's post describes this as a rollout in stages: current Las Vegas riders first, more riders added over time, then everyone. It is the sixth major airport Waymo serves, and Zoox already offers rides at the same airport.

Our call

If you already ride Waymo in Las Vegas, head to the Ground Zero Level zones at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. If you are not a current Las Vegas rider, Waymo's post gives no date for when airport rides open to you, so keep another way to the airport as your plan.
