CapCut has announced a plugin that would let you start a video in ChatGPT and finish it in CapCut. It is not available yet. CapCut's newsroom post, dated Oct. 26 and covering announcements at CapCut World in Los Angeles, says it will arrive "in the coming months" and gives no date.

What CapCut says it will do

The post describes a three-step flow:

  • Develop an idea with ChatGPT.
  • Use CapCut to assemble a first cut.
  • Keep refining through conversation, for example asking to hold a shot longer, make captions easier to read or keep music underneath a voiceover.

You can also make a hands-on edit yourself and continue the conversation with that change understood. If it ships as described, ChatGPT becomes a front door to a mainstream editor, which makes it a ChatGPT video editor in practice, though CapCut does not use that phrase in the post.

Other CapCut AI updates in the same post

The same newsroom post lists several other changes:

  • EditPilot on Desktop takes prompt-based timeline edits, such as changing the color of one object in a shot.
  • Generative and Interactive Edit lets you select what to change in the preview window.
  • The web editor gains AI image, video and audio generation, with Interactive Edit, AI Extend and Intelligent Audio coming to it. AI Lab on mobile is a conversational space for turning photos and clips into projects.
  • An agentic creation pilot is planned for desktop, web and mobile in the coming months.
  • A pilot AI transparency tool lets you upload a file to see whether it was made with AI tools from CapCut, Dreamina, Pippit or Hypic. CapCut says it also uses AI labels, C2PA Content Credentials and invisible watermarks.

CapCut says it has more than 700 million users across 170+ markets.

How this compares

CapCut already has a plugin for OpenAI's coding agent. Its CapCut x Codex page describes generating images and video, then refining the timeline in chat or opening the CapCut editor for manual control. The new announcement points the same idea at ChatGPT plugins, with no date attached.

For OpenAI's other recent ChatGPT updates, see our stories on the Chrome extension's Work mode and GPT-6 Pro, and on GPT-6.1 Terra in ChatGPT and Codex.

What this means for you

The ChatGPT plugin cannot be installed yet. If you already edit in CapCut, its Codex plugin page describes a chat-driven route that exists today. The ChatGPT version needs a release date, and details such as which plans can use it or what it costs are not in the post.

We read the newsroom page at 4:50 PM ET and the Codex page at 4:51 PM ET on Oct. 26. The newsroom post does not say who can use the plugin or whether it needs a CapCut account.
