You can now text your dot, ChatGPT's agent, according to a post from the official ChatGPT account on X. It is rolling out as a preview for Pro users in the US, and messages go over iMessage or RCS.
What changed
You can now send your dot work by text message.
- What you can send: a task to take off your plate, or something to keep an eye on, as text, photos or voice notes.
- What comes back: your dot texts you proactively with relevant updates.
- Channels: iMessage or RCS, which OpenAI calls safe and secure texting.
- Same dot: it has the same context and plugins wherever you reach it, per a follow-up post.
Who gets it
It is a preview for Pro users in the US, per ChatGPT's post.
What to do: turn it on
Tap your dot's profile and select Texting, per the follow-up post.
Who can text whom
OpenAI draws two limits. You are the only one who can text your dot, and your dot can only text you. The follow-up post adds that this does not give your dot or OpenAI access to your other text conversations.
What the posts do not say
- Whether Plus or other plans will get it, or when.
- Whether it will reach countries outside the US.
- Which carriers or phones support it, and whether RCS or iMessage is required on your device.
- Any price. The posts give no Pro price.
