Google says it is expanding AI Inbox in Gmail, a view that surfaces to-dos and priority work updates from your email, to paid Google Workspace users. The company says it launched AI Inbox earlier this year. Availability is limited to users in the US with EN-US as their language.
Who gets it, and when
Google's post names the plans: Business Starter, Standard and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus; AI Pro for Education; and Frontline Plus.
The same post says AI Inbox will roll out later to Starter and Education editions, "in the coming months."
Read together, the plans in today's wave are Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Frontline Plus. This is our reading of the post, which does not label the wave that way.
Timing depends on the release track. Rapid Release domains started a gradual rollout on Oct. 12, with up to 15 days for the feature to become visible. Scheduled Release domains start on Oct. 26, with the same window.
What the two views do
Google's post describes two capabilities. Suggested to-dos extracts action items, deliverables and deadlines from email conversations. Topics to catch up on gives summaries of important topics across multi-message threads, including key decisions and status changes.
Eligible users open AI Inbox from the menu in the Gmail desktop client or the mobile app.
No admin control
Google's post says there is no admin control for this feature. That matters for IT teams: an organization on an eligible plan cannot switch AI Inbox off or on for its users based on this post alone. The post lists no admin setting, so any check would be with Google.
Our assessment: the practical question for an admin is whether your plan and release track put your users in the first wave. Rapid Release domains are already inside the window. Scheduled Release domains should expect it from the Scheduled Release start.
