Android Authority reports missing HDR playback on the HP Googlebook 14 and Dell XPS Googlebook, citing Reddit users. We could not open the Reddit thread, so the statement from Google's Mishaal Rahman below is as Android Authority reproduced it.
What is reported
- Reported missing: HP Googlebook 14 and Dell XPS Googlebook, per Reddit users as relayed by Android Authority; Digital Trends repeats the report. Notebookcheck, reviewing an HP Googlebook it calls the 14c, says the OLED screen has no HDR support.
- Working: ASUS Googlebook 14, which Android Authority says it saw show the HDR badge on its own unit.
- Not reported either way: Acer Googlebook 14 and Lenovo Googlebook 15.

What Google said
Android Authority quotes Google's Mishaal Rahman replying in a Reddit thread. We could not open Reddit, so this is as reproduced by Android Authority: "HDR support, including in YouTube and Netflix, is available on certain Googlebook models today." It adds that Google is working with partners to expand support to all available models.
How to check your own Googlebook
Play an HDR video on YouTube and open the quality menu. Android Authority describes the ASUS badge on the gear icon, and YouTube's help page says viewers see "HDR" after each quality option in the video player, such as 1080p HDR.
Google's display help page lists an "Enhanced HDR brightness" setting under Settings, Device & accessories, Display, and says it may not be on every device. Google has not linked it to this issue.
Why it matters
Google's shop pages for all five models list no HDR spec, so the listing will not tell you, and screen type is not a guide: see the HP and ASUS comparison below.
Our advice, not tested: if HDR video matters to you, ask the seller to confirm it for the exact model, or wait until HDR support is confirmed for that model.
US starting prices (USD) and reported HDR status
Google's shop "From" prices, as of Oct 13, 2026, 10:48 a.m. ET:
- Acer Googlebook 14: from $899, not reported
- Dell XPS Googlebook: from $999, reportedly missing
- Lenovo Googlebook 15: from $1,099, not reported
- ASUS Googlebook 14: from $1,299, working per Android Authority
- HP Googlebook 14: from $1,299, reportedly missing
- HP and ASUS list the same $1,299 starting price and a 14-inch 2.8k OLED touchscreen on Google's shop, yet only ASUS is reported to work.
What is not confirmed
- Whether or when support will expand, and whether a software update would be required.
- Why some models launched without HDR.
- HDR status on the Acer and Lenovo models.
