Rockstar Games says Grand Theft Auto VI pre-load begins on Nov. 10, per its pre-load announcement. Its support FAQ says the pre-load "will require up to 212 GB of available space depending on your device." The game launches Nov. 19, 2026, per Rockstar's launch announcement.

What to do before Nov. 10

  1. Free up space. Plan for up to 212 GB. Rockstar gives one figure, not a size for each console, so the exact GTA 6 file size on your device may differ.
  2. Turn on automatic downloads. On PS5, Rockstar says auto-downloads must be enabled and the console must be on or in Rest Mode. On Xbox, automatic updates must be enabled and the console on or in Sleep mode.
  3. Know your start time. PS5 pre-load starts at midnight local time on Nov. 10. Xbox Series X|S starts at 12 a.m. GMT on Nov. 10, which is the evening of Nov. 9 in US time zones.

Make room

  • PS5: Check free space under Settings > Storage. Sony says you can delete games and apps, or move games to USB extended storage or an M.2 SSD. See PlayStation's storage guide and how to install an M.2 SSD.
  • Xbox Series X|S: Microsoft says to uninstall games and apps you are not using, and your saved data syncs online so it comes back if you reinstall. See Xbox's storage guide.

Rockstar's FAQ does not say whether the pre-load can go on an external drive.

Price and format

The Verge reported that the game costs $79.99 and is digital-only, with the physical edition being just a code in the box. We have not confirmed those details on Rockstar's pages.

What we checked

The space figure, start times and settings come from Rockstar's pre-load FAQ. Rockstar's newswire posts are the source for the Nov. 10 pre-load date and the Nov. 19 launch date. We found no PC details there, so none are covered. For more console storage and gaming news, see the PS Plus November games and a 512GB microSD Express card for handheld gaming.
