Walmart sells the SanDisk 512GB GamePLAY microSD Express card at $98.00, sold and shipped by Walmart.com, as of Oct. 15, 2026. When we checked at 1:57 p.m. ET on Oct. 15, Walmart showed low stock and no crossed-out list price. 9to5Toys flagged the price as a Switch 2 storage deal.

Is $98 a low?

9to5Toys says the card launched at $120 and rose to as much as $150 at Amazon in recent months. It calls the $98 price roughly 35% off and a return to the lowest price it has tracked this year.

For a same-capacity comparison, Amazon lists the regular 512GB SanDisk microSD Express card at $129.99. That is a separate listing, not confirmed as the same product as the GamePLAY card. Against it, $98 is $31.99 lower, about 24%.

What the card offers

9to5Toys says the card is compatible with the Switch 2 and rates it at up to 880MB/s read and 650MB/s write on compatible devices. It adds that the card works in devices that take regular microSD cards, with speeds limited by the host.

As of the Oct. 15 page read, SanDisk's product page lists the same speeds for its 512GB microSD Express card but does not use the GamePLAY name.

Why the Switch 2 needs it

Nintendo's support page says the Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards, and that cards up to 2TB are supported. A system update over the internet is required the first time you use one.

Nintendo also says a regular microSD card used on a Switch cannot save or load digital games or save data on a Switch 2. On the original Switch, an Express card runs at regular microSD speed.

Why it matters

Our assessment: the real choice is capacity against cost. Nintendo says a regular microSD card cannot save or load Switch 2 games, so a card you already own will not do. At $98, 512GB leaves room for several large games without a second card.

9to5Toys notes Samsung's 256GB P9 Express microSD card is still down at $60. That is half the capacity for $38 less, a different trade-off rather than a like-for-like deal.

  • Price: $98.00 at Walmart, sold and shipped by Walmart.com, with low stock when we checked at 1:57 p.m. ET on Oct. 15.
  • Comparison: $129.99 for Amazon's regular 512GB SanDisk Express card, a separate listing.
  • Speeds: up to 880MB/s read and 650MB/s write, on compatible devices.
  • Restriction: the Switch 2 needs a system update over the internet the first time you use an Express card.
  • Deal end date: as of Oct. 15, neither Walmart's listing nor 9to5Toys gives an end date.

Our call

Our assessment: this is our opinion, and we have not tested the card. $98 for 512GB looks reasonable against the $129.99 Amazon price for the regular card, if you want room for several large Switch 2 games.

If 256GB is enough, the cheaper Samsung card is the other route. Check the price and seller before you buy, since as of Oct. 15 neither Walmart's listing nor 9to5Toys gives an end date.
