Yes, for now. Meta says the Quest 2 and Quest Pro have reached "end of feature development", which is not the same as discontinued. The company laid out the timeline in a developer blog post dated November 2. Both headsets keep working and keep getting security patches, but new features go to Quest 3, 3S and newer only.

Quest 2 end of support: the dates

  • v2.13 is the last OS update. Meta says it is the final OS release for both headsets and will reach all devices by March 2027. Version 213 is the last supported SDK version for developers.
  • Security patches continue through the end of 2027. Meta says Quest 2 and Quest Pro will get quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes until then. It also says it will not test new OS or SDK releases against these headsets.
  • New app submissions close in December 2027. After that, developers can still launch new titles on Quest 3, Quest 3S and newer, but they cannot offer them on Quest 2 or Quest Pro.

The Quest 2 launched in October 2020 and the Quest Pro in 2022.

Is the Quest 2 being discontinued?

Not in the sense of switching off. Meta says the Store stays open on these devices and no apps are being removed because of this change. Engadget reports the same dates. Meta frames Quest 3 and Quest 3S as the baseline from here, and says "Meta VR Glasses" launch next spring.

What stays the same

Meta lists these as unchanged:

  • Apps and games keep working, solo and multiplayer.
  • The Store stays open on Quest 2 and Quest Pro, and people keep everything they bought.
  • Developers can keep shipping updates to existing apps.
  • Cross-play between Quest 2, Quest Pro and Quest 3 and 3S continues.
  • Platform SDK features, the last Meta Avatars SDK release and PC VR over Link keep working.

What this means for you

Meta wrote the post for developers, so this part is our reading, not Meta's words. If you own a Quest 2, nothing breaks today, and security fixes continue through 2027. What changes is the pipeline: new system features will not come after v2.13, and from late 2027 new games may skip the headset. Whether that matters depends on what you play.
