The Samsung 990 PRO 4TB (MZ-V9P4T0B/AM) is $799.90 on Amazon at the time of writing, shipped and sold by Amazon.com and shown as a "Limited time deal". Amazon's typical price is $1,099.99, so the saving is $300.09, about 27%. Mashable flagged the same price.
Is this price a low?
Not a record. camelcamelcamel's chart shows Amazon's price at $799.90 as of Oct 20, 2026, against a high of $1,099.99 on Oct 3. That makes today about $300 below this month's peak.
The Amazon average over roughly the last 90 days is $866.20, so the price is about $66 under it. The all-time Amazon low is $249.99, in Nov 2023. At this price you pay about 3.2 times that.
A smaller Samsung drive shows the same pattern
The same pattern shows on a smaller drive. Our Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB story found it near its own Amazon peak this month, $289.99 on Oct 3, against a $64.99 low.
Two charts do not make a market trend. They do show that a "deal" on these two Samsung SSDs starts from a high base.
What the drive offers
- Interface: PCIe 4.0 NVMe, M.2 2280.
- Sequential read: up to 7,450 MB/s.
- Sequential write: up to 6,900 MB/s.
Those are Samsung's product-page figures. The same page lists the 4TB at the same price Amazon calls typical.
The heatsink version is not discounted
The deal is the bare drive. The heatsink model (MZ-V9P4T0CW) is $1,139.99 on Amazon. A third-party new offer was $844.98.
So the heatsink version is about $340 more than the deal drive, and that third-party new offer is still $45.08 above it.
Who it suits
Sony's PS5 page requires a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe drive, recommends 5,500 MB/s sequential read or faster, and says not to use an M.2 SSD without a heatsink or heat transfer sheet. Samsung's 7,450 MB/s clears the speed bar.
The deal drive has no heatsink, so a PS5 owner must add third-party cooling. Our best SSD for PS5 guide covers Sony's size limits.
Our call
At this price, the Samsung 990 PRO 4TB suits a buyer who wants a 4TB Gen4 drive now and wants Amazon.com as the seller. It is a real drop from this month's peak, but not a record low.
If you are buying for a PS5, budget for a heatsink. Do not pay the heatsink model's price for this deal. If you can wait, watch the tracked price. Prices as of Oct 21, 2026.
