Apple's HomeView is $299 and ships Nov. 13, per Trusted Reviews. That UK-priced, spec-only comparison with the Nest Hub (2nd gen) says it has not reviewed HomeView. Here is the US view, with the Echo Show 8 added.

US prices as of Oct. 14

  • Apple HomeView: $289.99 pre-order in Space Gray at Amazon, sold by Amazon.com, which says it will be released Nov. 13. Trusted Reviews gives $299 for both the wall-mounted and countertop models.
  • Nest Hub (2nd gen): $99.99 at the Google Store.
  • Echo Show 8: $199.99 in Graphite, in stock, sold and shipped by Amazon.com.

These are our editor's reads of the retailer pages on Oct. 14. Prices change, and the Amazon links are affiliate links.

One caution: we have not matched that Echo Show 8 listing (B0DC8ZMR1P) to Amazon's guide to its new Echo Show 8. Features below that come from the guide are Amazon's description of the new model, not confirmed for the listing.

What each one has

  • HomeView: Apple's spec page lists a 7-inch display and a 12MP Center Stage camera. Apple says it recognizes up to six people, which Trusted Reviews describes as Face ID.
  • Nest Hub (2nd gen): Google's Store page says Quick Gestures use Motion Sense "without a camera" and lists Netflix, YouTube and Sleep Sensing. Trusted Reviews gives it a 7-inch screen.
  • Amazon's new Echo Show 8: Amazon says it has a 13-megapixel camera with auto-framing and 3x zoom, runs Alexa+, and has a TV & Videos section for streaming providers it does not name.

Does the Nest Hub get Gemini

Trusted Reviews says the Nest Hub, as an older product, does not get Gemini. Google's help page says otherwise: it lists the Nest Hub (2nd gen) among displays with the complete Gemini for Home voice assistant.

That is subject to rollout. Google's help page says early access reaches more users over time, lists the United States and English, and requires Fuchsia firmware 28 or higher. Google Home says Gemini Live needs a Google Home Premium subscription.

What HomeView requires

Apple's spec page lists an iPhone with iOS 27.2 or an iPad with iPadOS 27.2 as a system requirement. Apple ties personal content to a paired iPhone or iPad, and our report covers which Siri AI features need Apple Intelligence.

Wired reports there is no App Store and that it found no dedicated YouTube, Netflix or Disney+ apps at launch, with video available through Safari. Apple lists the TV app under "Apps Available from iPhone."

On the wall model, Apple's spec page says the mount, USB-C cable and a power adapter of at least 20W are each sold separately. Our report puts mounts at $59.95 to $129.95, and our repair report puts out-of-warranty damage at $279.

Why it matters

This is opinion, built on the facts above. We have not used any of these.

For an Apple-only home, Apple's spec page pairs HomeView with your iPhone or iPad, so it is the natural pick if you can wait for Nov. 13. Amazon's pre-order at $289.99 trims the $299 list price a little.

For a mixed household, the Nest Hub or Echo Show 8 look easier. Apple's spec page requires an iPhone or iPad for HomeView, while neither Google's Store page nor Amazon's guide lists one.

For video in the kitchen, the Nest Hub is the safer pick, since Google's Store page names Netflix and YouTube. Amazon's guide names no providers, and Apple's spec page files TV under "Apps Available from iPhone."

For gesture control without a camera, Google's wording points to the Nest Hub. We make no claim about its other hardware.

On a budget, the Nest Hub at $99.99 is about half the Echo's price and about one-third of HomeView's $299 list price.
