Hardware and price
Blink's products page lists the Mini 2K+ and Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ indoor cameras from $49.99 and the Battery Doorbell 2K+ and Outdoor 2K+ at higher prices, as of about 5:18 PM ET. Our Blink announcement story covers the Mini 4K+ and the $199.99 Frontier XR+.
Ring's doorbell page runs from $44.99 for the Wired Doorbell 2K and Battery Doorbell 2K to $499.99 for the Wired Doorbell 4K Elite. Its outdoor camera page starts at $79.99 for the Outdoor Cam and reaches $279.99 for the Floodlight Cam 4K Pro.
Ring has more rungs, from 4K doorbells and cameras to a $499.99 gated-entry doorbell, which we cover in our Ring 4K lineup story. Blink's line is narrower.
Power: battery, plug-in or wired
Both brands cover the basics. Amazon lists the Blink Outdoor 2K+ with up to two years of battery life on two AA lithium batteries, and it needs a Sync Module, sold separately. The Blink Mini 2K+ is plug-in. Blink's Wired Doorbell 2K+ uses existing doorbell wiring.
Ring offers more choice. Its outdoor cameras list battery, plug-in, solar, wired and Power over Ethernet options on some models. The Ring Battery Doorbell 2K has a built-in battery you recharge over USB-C, with no cable included.
Video quality
Both sell 2K cameras at the low end. Blink calls its models 2K+, and Amazon's listing for the Outdoor 2K+ adds Color Vision in low light. Blink's Mini 4K+ is its first 4K camera, per our announcement story.
Ring sells Retinal 2K and Retinal 4K models, and its camera page still lists a 1080p Outdoor Cam. If 4K matters, Ring has more 4K options today, including outdoor, doorbell and floodlight models.
Subscription and storage
Both brands push cloud clips behind a plan. Blink's plans page lists Basic at $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year for one device, and Plus at $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year for unlimited devices. Both include cloud video storage for up to 60 days and person and vehicle detection.
Ring Protect starts with Solo at $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for one device. Multi is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year for all devices at one location. Ring lists up to 180 days of video history and smart alerts for people, packages and vehicles.
The break-even is plain arithmetic. Two Ring Solo plans are $99.98 a year, about the cost of one Multi plan at $99.99. Two Blink Basic plans are $79.98 a year, below Blink Plus at $119.99. Ring's costlier Pro and Virtual Security Guard plans add AI descriptions and monitoring.
Blink also sells AI tiers at $6.99 and $19.99 a month.
Local storage
Blink has the clearer local option. Blink's spec sheet says Sync Module 2 has a USB 2.0 Type-A port for local storage, with drives from 1 GB to 256 GB. Blink's plans page also lists auto-local storage backup as a plan feature.
For Ring, the plans page lists Local Video Storage under alarm features: a microSD card, sold separately, in a Ring Alarm Pro. The page lists no local option for the cameras alone.
Alexa and ecosystem
Both work with Alexa. Amazon's Ring listing says you can hear notifications on an Echo Dot and launch video on an Echo Show. Ring's plans page lists Alexa+ Greetings on select doorbells with a Ring plan.
Amazon's Mini 2K+ listing says it can act as a plug-in chime for a Blink doorbell and works with Alexa, and Blink's Wired Doorbell 2K+ bundle includes a Chime. Ring's plans also cover alarm, monitoring and Smoke and CO services if you want a wider system.
What this means for you
Pick Blink if you want one or two cameras, or want the lowest recurring cost for a single device. The Basic plan is cheaper than Ring Solo. Local storage through Sync Module 2 also helps if you dislike cloud-only clips.
Pick Ring if you want a doorbell that is wired or high-end, a floodlight or 4K model, up to 180 days of history, or a path to monitoring and an alarm system. Once you have three or more devices, Multi is cheaper than Blink Plus.
Doorbell shoppers: Blink's battery doorbell starts higher than Ring's cheapest, but Blink's plan is lower for one device. Compare the total, not the sticker. Our Blink cost story and Ring doorbell bundle story show how plan prices change the first-year total.
